Session teaser

During the first webinar of YOUthDIG 2024, we will introduce the Org Team and they will share their YOUthDIG experiences. An introduction to EuroDIG and the EuroDIG wiki will also be made. This is followed by a session led by Prof. Berna Akcali Gur, who will give an introduction to Internet Governance, and Daniele Turra, who will introduce youth participation in Internet Governance. YOUthDIGers are expected to contribute to the discussion on the topics, so prior preparation/contributions are needed.

  • Prof. Berna Akcali Gur, United Nations University – CRIS and Queen Mary University of London. Dr Akcali Gur is the LLM module convenor for Outer Space Law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies. Dr Akcali Gur's research focuses on public international law, world trade law, and EU Law implications of the advancements in ICTs. Her earlier work identifies, analyzes, and critically evaluates legal and policy problems arising from the global flows of data and the cross-border provision of digital content. In her more recent work, she also assesses and emphasizes the relationship of these problems with the geopolitics of global communications infrastructure. Berna Akcali Gur also conducts research in collaboration with the Digital Governance Cluster of the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies, where she is an Associate Research Fellow.
  • Daniele Turra, Business Analyst, Former ISOC Youth Ambassador. Daniele Turra is a ICT consultant and digital activist from Italy. He has a mixed educational background, with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and a master's degree in Management of public administrations with a focus on management information systems. He has a strong passion for digital rights, free and Open Source Software, and freedom of speech. He has been an Internet Society's youth ambassador in 2023 and with his work he wants to achieve a fairer Internet, stronger democracies, and more accountable institutions and corporations worldwide.
